The MCCQE exam dates for 2027 are four sessions: Tuesday 19 January to Thursday 11 February, Tuesday 27 April to Tuesday 1 June, Tuesday 10 August to Tuesday 7 September, and Tuesday 5 October to Tuesday 26 October. You book a single day inside one of those windows at a Prometric test centre. Booking for each session opens about 5 months before it starts, so April 2027 appointments should open around Friday 27 November 2026.
This guide lists every 2027 session with its booking and results dates, explains how the 12-month eligibility window works, and helps you choose the session that fits your study time and your residency plans.
Exam information checked against mcc.ca on 1 November 2026. The MCC says its dates are subject to change, so check the linked MCC pages before you book anything.

*Estimates. The exam windows are from the MCC scheduling page. The MCC announced on its news page that January 2027 booking opened on 26 August 2026. The other booking dates are 5 months before each session starts, and the results dates apply the MCC’s rule of 4 weeks after the last day of the session (5 weeks for April). The MCC does not publish these as calendar dates, so treat them as close estimates and watch MCC news for the exact day.
Aiming for April 2027? Have your application accepted before booking opens
Appointments are first come, first served, and you cannot book until the MCC has accepted your application in physiciansapply.ca. The MCC asks you to allow up to 4 weeks for processing, and longer if it still has to review your degree documents. If you apply in early November 2026, you should be ready to book when April appointments open in late November.
When is the next MCCQE?
The next MCCQE session is January 2027, from Tuesday 19 January to Thursday 11 February. Booking for it opened in August 2026, so popular test centres may already be full. If you cannot find a January date, the next session is April 2027, which runs from Tuesday 27 April to Tuesday 1 June.
The 2026 sessions ran from 20 January to 17 February, from 22 April to 30 May, and from 19 August to 21 October. The MCC combined the August and October 2026 sessions into one extended session and is releasing its results in three batches. The last batch covers exams written from 30 September to 21 October 2026, and those results are due 4 weeks after 21 October, which is Wednesday 18 November 2026.
How MCCQE booking works
Booking is a two-step process, and the first step is the slow one.
- Apply to the MCC. You apply through your physiciansapply.ca account and pay the exam fee, which is CA$1,500 on the MCC fees page at the time of writing. The MCC asks you to allow up to 4 weeks for your documents and application to be processed. You will get a message in your account when you are eligible.
- Book with Prometric. Once you are eligible, you book your appointment on the Prometric website. Appointments open about 5 months before a session starts and are only available inside the session windows. The MCC does not book or change appointments for you.
The MCC also says it cannot guarantee you a date in a particular session. If you have a deadline, such as a residency application, it recommends taking the exam early enough to allow for problems.
Your 12-month eligibility window
When your application is accepted, you get a 12-month eligibility window to book and write the exam. The window closes after 12 months, or earlier if you write the exam, withdraw or miss your appointment. You can extend it once, by another 12 months, but only when it is within 60 days of expiring. If your window runs out without an exam or an extension, the MCC withdraws you and gives a partial refund.
Students work differently. You can apply up to 15 months before your expected graduation date, and your window starts 12 months before that date.
Can you write the MCCQE online?
No. The MCCQE is now delivered only in person, at Prometric test centres in Canada and in more than 70 other countries. Remote proctoring is no longer offered. Plan for a long day at the centre: the MCC describes each appointment as 6.5 hours, which covers check-in, a tutorial, two sections of 2 hours 40 minutes each and an optional 45-minute break.
Changing or cancelling your appointment
You reschedule or cancel on the Prometric website, and the fee depends on how close you are to your exam.
| When you change or cancel | What it costs |
|---|---|
| Up to 31 days before your appointment | CA$35 plus HST, paid to Prometric |
| Less than 30 days before | CA$75 plus HST, paid to Prometric |
| Less than 120 hours before, or you do not attend | Your exam fee is forfeited |

Which 2027 session should you choose?
The right session depends on three things: how much study time you need, when you need your result, and how many attempts you can afford to use. The MCC allows a maximum of four attempts, and a fail counts as one, so booking a session you are not ready for has a real cost.
| Session | Usually suits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| January 2027 | Candidates who started serious study by the autumn of 2026 and already hold an accepted application | Booking opened in August, so centre availability may be limited |
| April 2027 | Candidates starting a structured plan in December or January. Sixteen weeks before Tue 27 April is Tue 5 January | The longest wait for results (5 weeks after Tue 1 June) |
| August 2027 | Final-year students and graduates who want the summer to prepare | Booking opens around Wed 10 March, so apply in February |
| October 2027 | A late-year attempt, or a second attempt after a spring result | Results around Tue 23 November leave little room for a retake in the same year |
If you are aiming for a CaRMS match, check the CaRMS timeline for your match year before you pick a session. As an example of how the timing works, the MCC says every candidate in the August to October 2026 session will have a result in time for the 2027 R-1 Main Residency Match.
How long does it take to get MCCQE results?
Results come 4 weeks after the last day of the January, August and October sessions, and 5 weeks after the last day of the April session. The wait is counted from the end of the session, not from the day you wrote, so a candidate who writes on the first day of a session waits longer than one who writes on the last day.
You will get an email and a message in physiciansapply.ca when your result is ready. Two documents follow: a Statement of Results with your final result, your total score and the pass score, and a Supplemental Information Report with your subscores. Our guide to the MCCQE pass score explains what the numbers mean.
Add the 2027 dates to your calendar
We have put every 2027 exam window, estimated booking date and estimated results date into one calendar file that works with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook. Download the MCCQE 2027 calendar (.ics). The booking and results entries are marked as estimates, so check MCC news when each one comes close.
Planning your study around the date
Most candidates plan backwards from the session they book. Two practical points help whatever session you choose.
- Study to the blueprint, not the textbook. The MCC weights the exam by dimension of care and by physician activity. Acute care is 35% of the exam, and population health, ethics, law and organization of care topics run through all of it. Our guide to the MCCQE pass score includes the full blueprint table.
- Book the exam before you lose momentum. A booked date turns a vague plan into a weekly one. If you are not ready, moving your appointment more than 30 days ahead costs much less than a late change.
